Unexpected reboots can occur upon transition to PatchCX [Ongoing]

Created by Brent Henderson, Modified on Fri, 8 May at 5:27 PM by Brent Henderson

We have received numerous reports since Tuesday, May 5th about endpoints rebooting without warning, outside of enforced maintenance windows. After investigating these incidents and reporting them to Tanium, we were informed that a new version of Patch tooling being released to cloud tenants has a bug that has resulted in this behavior under certain circumstances.

Bug Details

  • Tooling Affected: Endpoints with Patch CX 1.9.609 and prior
  • Endpoints Affected: Devices that receive the new tooling update while a) in a pending reboot state and b) with an active Patch deployment targeting them
  • Fix / Workaround: Stop Patch deployments prior to the tooling upgrade going into place and confirm that corrected tooling is in place prior to beginning new deployments.
